Skull Mug

This Skull Mug is part of a range of products inspired by the Mexican festival 'dia de los muertos' (day of the dead). Although festivals honouring the memory of departed loved ones are common throughout the world, it is in Mexico, where Christian beliefs have been infused with Aztec traditions, that this practice has become such a vivid and important part of local culture.

The festival is traditionally celebrated with offerings of some of the departed’s favourite food and drink. Marigolds are scattered, and both the graves of the dead and the homes of the living are decorated with skulls created from sugar and decorated with intricate floral patterns.

These sugar skulls (or candy skulls as they are also known) are the most memorable and potent symbol of the festival.

The Candy Skull Mug, despite the name, is not edible!
